Our wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, grandma and friend. Dorothy came to us as the second child of Clair and Harriett (Drake) Darrow on November 28, 1918 in Atlantic, Iowa.
She married Roland E. Ackerman on May 4, 1937 in Griswold, Iowa.
Here is to the woman whose warmth, wisdom and humor have earned her the respect of her friends and family and who made this world a better place to live.
Dorothy loved our country and waited anxiously for the husband to return from duty during World War II.
Here is to the woman who knew how it felt to lose as well as to win. The woman who could see a cherished dream wash away and start back to work on a new one with faith in herself and hope for tomorrow.
Here is to the woman who didn’t claim to know the answers until she understood the questions.
Dorothy was loved by her daughter Charlotte (Bill) Hatcher; grandsons, Jay (Tara) Hammond; sister Jeanne Huish; sister-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rollie, her parents, Clair and Harriett Darrow; father and mother-in-law, Casper and Eva Ackerman; sister Mildred; brother Larry (Lola) Darrow; son Robert; son-in-law Craig Hammond; brother-in-law Charles Huish, several uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Here is to the woman who knew where she stood. The woman with confidence in her own beliefs that she was not afraid to let others express theirs.
Mom, you were loved and will be missed by many.
