Emery (Red) Herman Ramey a resident of Lamoille, NV passed away on June 28, 2014. He was 88 years old.
Emery was born to Doc and Carrie (Hedgecock) Ramey in Pikeville, KY on October 22, 1925. He was one of nine siblings. Wheeler Ramey, Hester Ramey Goff, William Ramey, Elmer Ramey, Joseph Ramey, Phillip Ramey, Harold Ramey, Ruth Ramey Adams. They all preceded his death.
Emery attended school in Raccoon Creek and Johns Creek, KY until he went into the United States Navy at the age of 17. He served in WWII and the Korean War and was one of the “Greatest Generations” that ever lived.
In 1942 Emery was 17 years old and awaiting assignment to his ship the USS Orion which was in Oakland, CA where he met Doris Ann DeWitt in Manteca, CA. They corresponded for three years until his return to the United States in 1945. They were married on Oct. 24, 1945 in Reno, Nevada. They both moved to NY to complete his Naval Service. Emery was discharged on Jan. 16, 1946 in Lido Beach, Long Island, NY. Emery and Doris lived in NY where he worked for a Hat Factory and Western Electric. Doris was yearning to be home closer to her family and it wasn’t long before they returned to Manteca, CA to start his 35 year career with the Southern Pacific Railroad and start a family.
Emery enjoyed the outdoors and had a passion for fishing and hunting. He loved Lamoille, the drives to Lamoille Canyon and all his dear friends from that area.
Emery was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and by his wife of 36 years. He is survived by his children Glenn and Karen Ramey Thompson from Livingston, TX and David and Marcy Ramey from Aiken, SC. He has one granddaughter Angie Ramey and two great grandchildren, Tyler and Brittany Ramey. Nephew Leon Ramey from NC, nieces Faith Ramey Coleman and Carlene Ramey Scott from Ohio.
The surviving family wants to extend special thanks to all of Red’s dear friends from Lamoille, Elko and Spring Creek Nevada for their thoughtfulness and of kindness in caring and watching over our Dad over the many years he lived in Lamoille. You are all angels and may God bless you richly for your loving care to him.
There will be a celebration of Red’s life in Lamoille at the Old school house on July 13, 2014 at 2pm.
