Simone (Mona) Palmere Vincent

Simone (Mona) Palmere Vincent 101, of Sandpoint, after a full and beautiful life went peacefully home to the Lord on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Hearthstone Village with her loving daughter; Elaine and other family members at her bedside. A Vigil service with Rosary will be recited on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 7:00PM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sandpoint with Father Dennis C. Day, officiating. Inurnment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park where Mona will be lay beside her beloved husband. Mona was born on December 15, 1912 in Ronsa, Belgium to Henry and Ramona DeFruiter. She came to the United States in 1919 by ship with her maternal grandparents, her sister Henriette, and her brother Omer. They entered the US through Ellis Island and were reunited with their parents in New York City. Eventually, the family settled on a farm in Nebraska where three more brothers were added to the family; Robert, Julian and Albert. Mona was preceded in death by all five of her siblings and her parents. She was united in marriage to Cecil Howard Vincent in Gothenburg, Nebraska. They lived in Ogallala, Nebraska and Denver, Colorado before moving to Idaho in 1974 where Mona and Cecil purchased the Westmond Store in Cocolalla, Idaho. They operated the store until 1978. Mona and Cecil purchased their home in the Sandpoint area and Cecil worked for Bonner County School District until retirement in 1993. Mona was a happy stay-at-home wife where she enjoyed baking the best cinnamon rolls and bread in the world! She was an avid gardener growing fruits, vegetables, flowers and beautiful roses…she loved her yard! She did beautiful crocheting, was a whiz at games and puzzles. She so enjoyed parties with family and friends. She loved life and dancing with her husband, Cecil, who preceded her in death in July 1997. Mona adored her family and would just glow when she was around them…they were her life. Mona is survived by her three children: daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Don Farrar of Sandpoint, Jerry Vincent, of California, and Delane Vincent of Wisconsin; five grandchildren: Mike and Judy Thurmond, Lisa and John Findlay, Judy and Rad Raynor, Carla Farrar and Rob Strang, Don Farrar; ten great grandchildren: Jessica, Sarah, Stephanie, Tara, Jared, Kevin, Daniel, Amanda, Monica, Aaron and by nine great great grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces: Betty Johnson, Jennifer Hagar and numerous other nieces and nephews. Mona was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church since moving to Idaho in 1974. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff and care givers from Hospice and Hearthstone for their love and tenderness shown to Mona. The family suggests memorials to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Building Fund or to a charity of donor’s choice.
