Betty Jo Standish

October 20, 1922 — July 5, 2014

Betty Jo (Caughey) Standish, 91 after 66 years of marriage, four children, seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild passed away on July 5, 2014. Private family services will be held at a later time. Betty was born October 20, 1922 in Filer, Idaho the second child of five born to Robert “Shorty” and Fern (Bills) Caughey who were originally from Kansas. The Caugheys moved several times including returning to survive the worst of the depression in dust bowl Kansas. The Caughey family moved to Sandpoint in 1936 and Betty graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1940. She worked as a bookkeeper/cashier for the J.C. Penny Company before marrying Leigh Myles Standish on May 1, 1942. The Standish family made Wrenco their home where Betty was involved with the Community Club and was a 4-H leader. Many will remember Betty as “the Avon Lady” which she was for over 45 years. She also volunteered her time at the Sandpoint Gun Club, with Leigh, for over 40 years. Betty very much enjoyed reading, gardening, dancing, sewing, knitting, watersports, boating, fishing and learning to do well all things she undertook. She was preceded in death by her brother Bobby, by her sister Helen, a son Bill and husband Leigh, The family suggests memorials to the Panhandle Animal Shelter, 870 Kootenai Cutoff Rd., Ponderay, ID 83852.
