Darlene H. Turner passed away to Heaven on August 16, 2014 at her home in Hope, ID. Darlene was the youngest of four children born (on 3-30-30 at 3:30 a.m.!) to Swedish immigrants Emil F. Erikson and Hulda A. Skarberg on Whidbey Island, WA. She grew up on the family farm in Clinton, WA and went on to college at WSC where she proudly graduated with a degree in Landscape Design. While at WSC, she fell in love with and later married William L. Turner. Bill and Darlene spent their years together happily raising their four children, Dale, Krista, Wayne, and Kari, in Edmonds, WA where Bill worked for Safeway and Darlene was an elementary school teacher. Their home was a gathering place for all the kids’ friends, and cherished family summer vacations were spent at Lake Pend’Oreille, ID. After Bill passed away, Darlene retired and moved to Idaho where she built a home on Lake Pend’Oreille and developed her property into a beautiful garden, and where family and friends vacationed every summer. Darlene loved those times and other family gatherings, enjoyed her PEO group, and was a member of First Lutheran Church, Sandpoint, ID. She was a beautiful, fun and vibrant lady, and we miss her deeply.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Alan, Lester, and Dorothy, infant son Glen, husband Bill, and infant grandson Oren. She is survived by her children, William Dale of Lake Stevens, WA, Krista Shroader (Dann) of North Charleston, SC, Wayne (Julie) of Spokane, WA, Kari Alskog (Chuck) of Arlington, WA and grandkids Aaron, Stephanie, Chelsea, Alec, Sam, Casey, Olivia, Jared, and Jessica.
A small family memorial gathering will be held in Lynnwood, WA on August 30th where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Bill.
