Gerald “Red” Ely Sarff, 95, of Kootenai passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at his home.
Graveside services will be conducted 1:00PM, Friday, August 29, 2014 at Pinecrest Memorial Park, with Robert Evans II, officiating.
Gerald was born May 13, 1919 in Plentywood, Montana the son of Marvin and Rosamond Sarff. At an early age he moved with his family to Staples, Minnesota. He was raised and educated there and in 1937 his whole family came to North Idaho. He married M. Barbara Headden in Mullen, Idaho on May 7, 1942 and they were married for 52 years before her death in 1994.
He worked in the woods as a logger and also worked at mining. His occupation took him throughout the western United States. Gerald was a member of the Eagles Lodge for nearly 70 years.
Mr. Sarff enjoyed hunting, fishing, was a published poet, and an accomplished artist. One of the great joys he had was playing baseball and did so for many years.
He is survived by his daughter: Fonda Sarff of Kootenai; 2 brothers: Extra (Lela) Sarff of Whale Pass, AK, Doyle (Delores) Sarff of Wrangell, AK; and many nieces and nephews including Jerald and Amy Sarff of Bonners Ferry, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents, and six brothers and sisters.
