Robert “Bob” Boyd Becker, 82, of Sandpoint passed away at his home, near Dover, on Tuesday, October 14, 2014.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00am, Monday, October 20, 2014 in Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel, with military honors. Pastor Steve Ennis, Dover Community Church, will be officiating with burial in Pinecrest Memorial Park. There will be a viewing for Bob at Coffelt Funeral Chapel on Sunday from 2:00-4:00PM.
Bob was born on January 5, 1932 in Aberdeen, Idaho the son of John and Effie Becker. The Becker family moved from American Falls, Idaho to the Dover area in 1943. Bob attended Bonner County schools prior to clearing land for blister rust control and working in the Bunker Hill mine in Wallace, Idaho. He served with the US Army from 1950 until 1953 in France and Okinawa.
On June 1, 1956 he married Alma Smith in Dover, Idaho. Bob built his first home, on Pine Street Loop, while working for the Tenex plant in Dover. He later moved to Tyonek, Alaska working in a chip mill and then worked on the North Slope out of Prudhoe Bay at the beginning of the Alaskan Pipe Line. He returned to this area as a millwright working for WI and Pack River Lumber Company. He also spent time in the Saipan Territory rebuilding diesel generators for the Saipan Power Company prior to his retirement in 1997. Bob was a member of the Dover Community Church and a Past Exalted Ruler of B.P.O.E. # 1376.
In his retirement he and Alma enjoyed traveling and were member of the Good Sam Club and the Rainbow Chasers. He enjoyed camping, and picking huckleberries with his family which he would occasionally sell. He loved hunting and fishing in the area and had fished commercially for bluebacks, many years ago. Being a millwright, Bob could spot a problem and then fix anything. He was always available to his family and his friends.
Bob is survived by his two children Mitch (and Marilyn) Becker; Kelli (and Doug) Burt both in the Sandpoint area; Five grandchildren Charlie Becker, Stephanie Becker, Christopher Becker, Natalie Becker, and Kendall Roos; a great grandchild Codi Ann O’Connell; two sisters Esther Verwolf and Ella Mae Chronic both in Sandpoint; his brother Don Becker in Dover.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Alma, three siblings Juanita, Bill and Hazel; and his grandson Tyler Burt.
