Maxine Elizabeth McDowell

Maxine E. McDowell, 88, passed away in Sandpoint, ID on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 23rd, in Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel. Father Dennis C. Day, St Joseph’s Catholic Church, will officiate and internment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Maxine was born in Eldora, Iowa on Oct. 27, 1919, the daughter of Jacob and Nellie Fromm. She moved to Clark Fork, ID in 1932 and then to Dover in 1934. She attended local schools and married Raymond McDowell on July 3, 1937 in Coeur d’Alene, ID. She had twin sons Michael and Patrick McDowell. She moved to Priest River in 1949 and cooked for Albert Wah in the Pend Oreille Café. In 1964 she moved to Sandpoint, working for Leonard Haugse at the Pastime Café. She also cooked at Don’s Drive In, Connies, and the Schweitzer Lodge. She enjoyed doing embroidery work and reading. She loved to cook for her family and her friends. She is survived by her 2 sons Patrick F. McDowell and Michael R. (and Carol) McDowell both of Sandpoint, ID; 2 grandchildren Valerie Syth and Scott McDowell; great grandchildren Samantha Campbell, Amanda Syth, and Haley Syth all of Sandpoint, ID; her sister Margaret Heck of Spokane, WA; 3 nephews Paul and Jim Fromm and Ed Hildreth; a brother in law Dorance Hildreth; her extended family Margie McDowell, Wade Syth, her special friends at Valley Vista, and the Huckleberry Retirement Home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond, 2 sisters Leona Lindt and Wilma Hildreth, a brother Richard Fromm, a brother in law Bill Lindt, and a sister in law Francis Fromm.
