Jim Binkerd, 72, of Sandpoint, Idaho, died at home on January 31, 2015 after a brief but difficult battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on December 11, 1942 in Alameda, California to Jean and Donald Binkerd.
Memorial services will be conducted 11:00am, Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Sandpoint First Baptist Church, with Pastor Ken Smith, officiating.
Jim graduated from Alameda High School in 1960, and served in the Air Force, serving in Libya where he was trained as an X-ray technician. Upon return to civilian life, he attended and graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelor's Degree in Soil Sciences. In addition, he received his Bachelors in Mathematics at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, and also spent a year at Capernwray Bible School in England. He worked for Soil Service Conservation in Boise and Tri Cities, Washington. He eventually settled in Olympia, where he worked at various medical facilities, including St Helens and Providence Centralia Hospital.
On May 17, 1997 Jim married Cindy Shields and they moved to Sandpoint, Idaho in 2013, where Cindy was born and raised.
Jim was a musician playing the saxophone in several groups, including the Johnny Lewis Band and Centralia College Jazz Band. Jim had a love for youth and worked with various church youth groups throughout his life. He also tutored high school and college students in math and music.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hiking, camping and backpacking, but his ultimate love was the Lord.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Shields Binkerd. Two sisters, Patty (David) George of Auburn, WA, and Linda Adamy of Olympia, Washington.
