Edith Wilson Cruise

April 9, 1918 — February 16, 2015

In Loving Memory Edith Wahrenbrock Wilson Cruise April 9,1918 - February 16 , 2015 Edith Wahrenbrock Wilson Cruise passed peacefully on in the quiet of her apartment at Luther Park in Sandpoint Idaho. Edith was born in Corder Missouri to David and Jessie Wahrenbrock where she spent her childhood on their farm along with her older brother Earl. Upon graduating from high school she attended Central College at Fayette, Missouri for two years before transferring to Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in child development. While attending Iowa State she met Carroll C. Wilson and they were married December 8th, 1940 in Dubuque, Iowa where they resided until 1943 when they made the decision to head west to Lebanon, Oregon. In 1954 the family moved from their home at 4th & Sherman Streets to south of Lebanon in the foothills of Middle Ridge where they built their family home while raising purebred sheep, rye grass, and managing their tree farm. After graduate study at the University of Oregon Edith received a teaching certi?cate and her Master's degree in Library Science in 1967. She did substitute teaching at Lebanon and Sweet Home High Schools and served as Polk County Librarian until becoming District Librarian of the Crowfoot School system in which Waterloo Elementary and Seven Oak Junior High were included. Edith was a Girl Scout leader for nine years, 4-H club leader seven years, active in American Association of University women, the Audubon Club, Home Extension club, several different book clubs, study groups and a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church. After Carroll's death from a long and at times debilitating illness Edith then married Donald A. Cruise in August, 1976 and retired from Crowfoot Schools. They then became "snowbirds" spending winters in Tucson, Arizona where she remained active doing volunteer library and teacher's aide work in various Hispanic and Yaqui Indian elementary schools while being block captain for activities in the retirement community of Horizons West where they had a home. Both Edith and Don wanted to travel so they bought a motorhome and spent many enjoyable days traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. They were also able to take cruises to visit many foreign countries including the Bahama Islands, Puerto Rico, Greece, Egypt, Australia and cruised the Inside Passage from Vancouver to S.E. Alaska. Upon returning to Lebanon following Don's sudden death in January, 1995 Edith decided the family home had become to big for only her and moved to a condominium on Wheeler Street that bordered the Lebanon canal where she resided until moving back to Tucson in 1999 on a permanent basis. As older age and some of the problems and inconveniences that come with it such as no longer able to drive being the biggest factor, she then moved to Sandpoint, Idaho in February of 2008 where she was able to remain until passing on at the age of 96. Edith had many interests in life some starting from childhood on their family farm in Missouri while some were acquired while raising her family in the Paci?c Northwest, others acquired in the Southwest upon retirement. She was an enthusiastic lover of nature, animals and the great outdoors. One of her favorite forms of recreation was camping out and trout ?shing in the rivers and lakes of the Cascade Mountains in her younger years while still maintaining her interests in bird watching, ?ower gardening, reading, music, swimming, biking, attending Oregon State basketball games in Corvallis and watching her beloved Arizona Wildcats on TV during her later years. She was a loving, dedicated Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend to many. Her Christian faith and unsel?sh sacri?ce for friends and family, combined with a positive attitude towards life and a good sense of humor to accompany the things she considered valuable in life was and will continue to be an inspiration to her family and friends as an example of a life well lived. We will miss her. Edith was preceded in death by her parents David and Jessie Wahrenbrock, her brother Earl, husbands Carroll C. Wilson, Don Cruise, daughter Barbara Jean Wilson, friend and neighbor Bill Sitler.
