Kenneth A. Syth, 87, of Clark Fork, passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2008 at Life Care Center in Sandpoint, ID.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00PM, Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Jon Pomeroy, Sandpoint Church of God, officiating. Private interment will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery. Friends may call at Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel, Friday from 2:00-5:00PM.
Ken was born March 11, 1921 in Greenwood, Wisconsin, one of 18 children, born to William and Helen Stoneburg Syth. He was raised in Montana and as a young man worked with the CCC near Missoula, Montana. While working with the CCC he helped construct Lolo Pass, and Farragut Naval Base. On April 1, 1941 he married Marie E. Honberger at Glendive, Montana. In the mid 1940’s the family moved to Clark Fork, Idaho where he has since resided. He worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad for 37 years prior to his retirement.
Mr. Syth loved dancing, and would always be the first on the dance floor. He enjoyed traveling, and visited Mt. Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, Glacier Park in Montana, and Waterton Glacier Park in Canada, Jackson Hole Montana, and California. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles, snowmobiles, and as recently as Sept of this year was riding ATV’s. However, of all the things he enjoyed his family was his greatest joy.
He is survived by:4 children: Leroy (Sandy) Syth of Sandpoint, Gary (Margaret) Syth of Sagle, Bonnie (Eston) Harbison of Sandpoint, Cecil (Marlene) Syth of Clark Fork, ID; 8 grandchildren: Paula Campbell of Sagle, Wade Syth of Sandpoint, Jackie (Josh) Forell of Sagle, Tina Harbison of Everett, WA, Tony (Trish) Harbison of Coeur d’Alene, Gary (Keri) Syth, Jr., of St. Louis, MO, Neale (Christy) Syth of Sagle, Malissa (Doug) Halsey of Spokane, WA; 5 siblings: Art (Alma) Syth of Sandpoint, Melvin Syth of Libby, MT, Billy (Grace) Syth of Post Falls, Verlyn (Jo) Syth of Sandpoint, Gerald (DeEtte) Syth of Heron, MT, Alta Essler of El Dorado Springs, MO; 13 great grandchileren, 1 great great grandchild; 2 sisters-in-law: Margaret Snively of Grants Pass, OR, and Toddy Silverthorn of Paradise, MT.
He was preceded in death by infant twin brothers: William and Wayne, his wife, Marie, infant daughter, Evonn Marie, parents, sisters Alma, Marjorie, May, Esther, and brothers, Ted, Bernard, Hugh, and Lyle.
