Gale Franklin Dolsby, 80, passed away March 31, 2015 in Sandpoint, Idaho. He was born on September 19, 1934 in Herndon, Kansas to Franklin ‘Frank’ Victor Dolsby and Laura Hudson.
Gale married Vicki Dale Frederiksen in 1962 in Stanford Chapel, Palo Alto, California. They were happily married for 52 years.
Gale grew up in Herndon, Kansas and moved to Denver, Colorado in 1941 where he graduated from Eastside High School in 1952. Early on, Gale was captivated by racing stock cars, underage, in Colorado.
After high school and a stock car driving stint at Lakeside Colorado, Gale moved to California in 1959.Gale retired from the Alameda County Sheriff’s department in 1974.
After visiting a longtime friend Walt Kunze in Sandpoint, Gale moved the Dolsby clan to Idaho in 1976 where he held a number of occupations including business owner, bus driver, meter reader and soccer coach. Gale was a member of ACERA-Alameda County Employee Retirement Assoc., Elks, and Kiwanis Clubs. He enjoyed NASCAR and anything to do with an engine. Gale also enjoyed coaching and was one of the founders of Sandpoint Soccer Assoc. He enjoyed filming sports at Sandpoint High School in the 1980’s which was aired on the local TV station. Gale also filmed many family events as well.
Gale is survived by his spouse Vicki Dolsby of Sandpoint, Idaho; his sons/daughter Craig Dolsby of Spokane, Washington, Clint Dolsby of Boise, Idaho and his daughter Regan Dolsby of Portland, Oregon; his grandchildren Cameron, Paige, Cole, Brighton, and Quincy Dolsby; his nieces/nephews: Randy Dolsby; Laura, Donna and Sandy Drieth; Brian and Elisa Yost; and Karla Yost-Shann; Chad, Nancy and Julie Walker; Nicholas and Emmy Frederiksen; and in-laws Gail Yost, Lynn Walker, and Edward Frederiksen.
Gale was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers Leroy and Levi, and sisters Betty and Erma.
A memorial service will be held 11:00AM Saturday May 16, 2015 at Coffelt Funeral Chapel. A celebration of life will follow at Stillwater Ranch in Sagle Idaho.
