Arthur Lester “Art” Syth, 84, passed away in Sandpoint on Wednesday, December 31, 2008.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel. Pastor Jon Pomeroy, Sandpoint Church of God, will be officiating. Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Calling hours will be on Monday, Jan. 5th, from 3pm until 6pm at Coffelt Funeral Service.
Art was born in Marshfield, WI on August 15, 1924, the son of William and Helen Syth. The family moved to Sidney, MT and then to Heron, MT in 1938 where Art went to high school. In 1943 he was drafted into the US Army and served with Company B of the 349th Infantry.
He returned to Heron, MT and married Alma Crowley on Aug. 1, 1947 in Kalispell, MT. He farmed, worked in local saw mills, and drove logging truck in the Heron area. In 1964 he retired, due to a disability, and moved to Sandpoint, ID.
He was a lifetime member of the DAV and enjoyed snowmobiling and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Alma Syth in Sandpoint; 3 children Rose (and Dave) Kalb in Sagle, ID; Gail (and Dick) Inman in Sandpoint, ID; Carl (and Diane) Syth in Sandpoint, ID; 7 grandchildren David (and Laura) Kalb, Cami Kemp, Terrae (and Russ) Heckert, Travis (and Angel) Inman, Chad (and Jamie) Vineyard, Ryan (and Jessie) Vermeer, Jennie Syth, and 14 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings Alta Esler in MO; Melvin Syth in MT; Gerald (and DeEtte) Syth in MT; Verlyn (and JoNell) Syth in ID; and Billy (and Grace) Syth in ID.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Helen Syth, his siblings William and Wayne (twins), Ted Syth, Grace LaMont, Bernard Syth, Alma Rowe, Hugh Syth, Kenneth Syth, May Allen, Marjorie Zuhnter, Lyle Syth, and Esther Mischel.
