Raynold "Ray" Davis

November 22, 1925 — April 26, 2015

Raynold David “Ray” Davis, 89, of Sandpoint, peacefully passed away in the loving presence of his family on Sunday April 26, 2015 at Luther Park in Sandpoint. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00AM, Thursday, April 30, 2015 in the Sandpoint L.D.S. Stake Chapel, 602 Schweitzer Cut-off Rd, with Bishop Rob Redford, conducting. Interment will follow in Pack River Cemetery. Ray was born Nov. 22, 1925 in Twin Falls, Idaho the son of Raynold and Sina Davis. He graduated from Carey High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served at a military hospital in Alaska during World War II. Following his honorable discharge he attended the University of Idaho and received a BA in agriculture. While in college Ray met Imogene Crowell on a blind date and they were married on August 20, 1952. He commuted between Sandpoint and Clark Fork on a daily basis teaching high school vocational agriculture and shop. He later was hired by the U of I as an agriculture extension agent where worked for 30 years until his retirement in 1989. In 1986, while working as an extension agent, he received his master’s degree. Following the death of his beloved Imogene in 1994 he married the 2nd love of his life Beth Switzer on Sept. 22, 1996. Ray enjoyed skiing, was an avid snowmobiler, was dedicated to his work and 4-H, was a member of the cattlemen’s association, and spent countless hours horseback riding with his children. Along with the fair board he was instrumental in the design and construction of the current fairgrounds. He is survived by his wife Beth Davis of Sandpoint, children: Imogene (Bob) Lyon of Sandpoint, Ted (Linda) Davis of Dallas, TX; grandchildren: Sean Lyon, Steven (Katie) Davis, Brittney Davis, Greg Davis, Michelle Davis; great grandchild: Dexter Davis; and by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his first wife, Imogene, he was preceded in death by his parents, and his grandson, David Lyon.
