Sally Ann Lindemann

December 24, 1941 — May 12, 2015

Sally Ann Lindemann was born Sally Ann Stuart on December 24, 1941 in Davenport, Iowa to parents Lyle and Alice Stuart. She passed away at her home in Portland, Oregon on May 12, 2015 at the age of 73 following an extended illness. Sally lived in Sandpoint from 1984 to 2012. She and her husband, artist Bob Lindemann, moved to Sandpoint from Monte Sereno, California where they had both been educators with San Jose Unified School District. Sally had grown up visiting Sandpoint, the hometown of her father Lyle Stuart and her aunt Gertrude (Stuart) Bye. Sally’s grandparents owned the Sandpoint Fuel & Feed Company for many years. Sally spent her formative years in Houston, Texas and graduated from Texas Tech with a degree in Political Science after which she started her teaching career in San Jose, California. Sally and Bob married in 1969, and many summer vacations to North Idaho with Bob and his two daughters followed. When they decided to retire from education, Sandpoint was the place they wanted to be. Sally and Bob built a beautiful home near her aunt on Highway 2 and soon bought the Cottage Craftsman and established the Reflections Fine Arts Gallery. Sally was quickly immersed in the community. She joined several community organizations, ultimately serving as President of the Community Assistance League, Pend Oreille Arts Council and Festival at Sandpoint. She was VP of the Holly Eve Foundation, a member of Sandpoint Rotary and in 2008 was honored as a “Woman of Wisdom” by Women Honoring Women. In 2012, as her health began to fail, Sally moved to Portland to be closer to her stepdaughters, Ilse and Gretchen. Sally loved her life in Sandpoint; she deeply enjoyed being involved in the community and always had a special passion for art and education. She loved good food, politics, dancing and football. Sally will be remembered for her generous spirit, her sense of humor, her love of music, her dimpled smile and the hint of a Southern drawl - especially after a martini or two. Sally is survived by her stepdaughters and their families, Gretchen Tobin and husband Pat (Folsom, CA) and Ilse Coffman and husband Jim and their children Nic and Haydn (Portland, OR). Sally is predeceased by her parents, her aunt and by her beloved husband Bob (2004). She also leaves behind many dear friends in Sandpoint. A graveside service will be held for family and friends at Lakeview Cemetery at 2:00 pm on June Monday 22, 2015 immediately followed by refreshments and an informal celebration of life at Ivano’s. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sally’s memory may be made to the Pend Oreille Arts Council (POAC), P.O. BOX 1694, Sandpoint, ID 83864 or Sandpoint Rotary Charitable Trust (SRCT), P.O. Box 1666, Sandpoint, ID 83864 (please reference “Sally Lindemann”). “What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.” - Pericles
