Starla G Staglund

December 2, 1955 — June 6, 2015

Starla Gaylene (Rigby) Staglund passed away June 6, 2015 in Sandpoint, Idaho, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Sandpoint on December 2, 1955 to George and Nancy Della (Forell) Rigby of Kootenai, Idaho. She was raised by her step-father Randall “Joe” Bricker and her mother Nancy Della Bricker. She attended schools in Kootenai and Sandpoint, graduating from Sandpoint High School in 1974. She married Dan Staglund, of Sandpoint, in 1978. Shortly after high school, Starla began her career at Northern Lights, Inc., first as a receptionist, and later working in billing, payroll and accounting. She was passionate about her work up until the last day of her life, considering her colleagues part of an extended family, and was truly grateful for the many friendships she made throughout her years with the company. Starla was a particularly generous person, highly active in community service. Volunteering her time for the benefit of friends, family, and community was a common theme throughout her life. She was active in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, serving many volunteer positions, including Chairperson multiple years. She was a volunteer for the Long Bridge Swim every year since its inception in 1995, helping with record keeping and behind-the-scenes tasks. She was also a long-time volunteer for the Muscular Dystrophy Association “Fill the Boot” campaign, the service organization Beta Sigma Phi, Inland Northwest Blood Center, and many other community activities, events, and organizations too numerous to list. Throughout her life, Starla enjoyed spending time on the lake, attending community events and family get-togethers, watching and supporting her children and grandchildren in various activities, and solving crosswords and logic puzzles. Starla is preceded in death by her parents Nancy Della Bricker, Randall “Joe” Bricker, and George Rigby. She was also preceded in death by her brother Kevin Rigby of Ephrata, WA. She is survived by her husband, Dan Staglund of Sagle; two children, Briana Staglund of Sagle, and Brandon Staglund of Missoula, MT; two grandchildren, Alia Schmitt and Emma Schmitt, both of Sagle; seven siblings, Cheryl (Stan) Allen of Hope, Steve Rigby of Kootenai, Dara Roop of Sagle, Larry (Tammy) Bricker of Newport, WA; Christa (Pat) Francis of Kootenai, Ron (Dorothy) Bricker of Laclede, and Ken (Sue) Bricker of Meridian. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 27th, at First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint, with Pastors Bob Chenault and Steve Neuder officiating. Coffelt Funeral Services is in charge of all funeral arrangements. The family requests that any memorial gifts be directed to First Lutheran Church of Sandpoint, or Community Cancer Services. I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one, I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave behind when day is done. -Helen Lowrie Marshall
