Fredrick L. "Fred" Munson

March 3, 1953 — June 11, 2015

Fred Louis Munson passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at his home in Clark Fork, Idaho. A celebration of his life will be held at the lake later this summer. Fred was born in Ellensburg, Washington on March 3, 1953 to Albert and Pearl Munson. His family moved to Moses Lake, Washington when he was two years old. He graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1971 and attended Big Bend Community College. He worked at the local Western Auto Store, a paper plant and later owned and operated a wood business for many years. Fred loved the outdoors! Camping, hunting and especially fishing were his favorite activities. In the early 1990’s he moved to Idaho to be able to pursue his love of fishing on Lake Pend Oreille. Fred spent many happy days floating on the lake with a line or two (or 12) in the water, first on his boat “Knotty Gal” and later on “Work Release.” He spent the last few years teaching himself woodworking. He put a smile on many faces with the gifts he handmade. Fred also loved dogs! He understood them, respected them, gave to them, and never gave up on any of them. He once said that “when people get to heaven they get all their dogs back.” Fred will be remembered for his incredible generosity to others and his gift to make people laugh. He could lift the burden off your shoulders with his humor. He believed in helping people even when he knew they couldn’t help him back. He was a wonderful person with a creative and humorous soul. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed! He is survived by best friend and companion of 16 years, Sharon Canary, his daughter, Tanya Davenport, his grandson, Christopher Davenport, his sister and brother in-law, Pat and Bob Reistroffer and several cousins. And his dog, Henry.
