Arthur “Art” Walter Long, 83, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2015 in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho.
A funeral service will be held at Coffelt Funeral Home, Saturday, June 20th at 10 A.M. Private family burial will take place in Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Art was born in Colorado in 1932 and worked his way through High School. After getting a degree from the University of Colorado he entered the U.S. Army He served over 20 years achieving the rank of Colonel. He received a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma, He served two tours in Korea and one tour in Vietnam. Other more enjoyable assignments sent him to Costa Rica and Panama.
After retiring from the military he worked directly for Treasury Secretary James Baker before retiring for the second time and moving to Hope, Idaho where he lived over 20 years. He was very active with the Clean Air Coalition which along with other groups that saved our area from the annual smoke attack of burning grass seed fields on the Rathdrum prairie.
He also served as President of the Sandpoint Lions Club and enjoyed working with their community programs and scholarships. He was a member of the Clark Fork Methodist Church and was a long time amateur radio enthusiast. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, son Stephen, and daughter Wendy.
