Magnhild "Mag" Eidsmo

January 19, 1923 — June 26, 2015

Magnhild “Mag” B. Eidsmo was born January 19, 1923 on a farm in Skaun, Norway and died June 26, 2015 in Sandpoint, Idaho. Her mother died when she was 16, which defined her path as an outstanding and proud homemaker when she was forced to abandon plans to become a nurse and stay on the farm for much needed help. The Nazis invaded Norway three months later. She married Ingebrigt “Jim” Eidsmo from a neighboring farm and together they had four kids. In 1952 they immigrated to Minnesota, where their resourcefulness and hard work provided them a comfortable life. After Jim died in 1996, Mag moved to Spokane. She lived there for 15 years and moved to Sandpoint in 2011. She had a unique and fantastic sense of humor, which got her through everything. She was giving, loyal, kind and strong-willed. She didn’t suffer fools easily. She believed in personal responsibility and to “keep moving.” When she was able she biked, walked and skied. Her favorite thing to do was swim in Lake Pend Oreille, which she did until age 90. Known lovingly as “Mormor” to her grandkids, Mag’s entire family adored her, and she them. She suffered a stroke in 2013, which left her in a wheelchair. Her grace and resilience shined through as she was grateful but disappointed that she was now on the taking side of the equation. Her daughter Eli and Eli’s husband Dick took her into their home and took great care of her, along with fantastic support from other family members and caregivers. Mag is survived by children, spouses and grandchildren: Ivar and Vickie Eidsmo (Tori, Lisa) Telluride, Eli and Dick Sevenich, (Nik/Joy, great grandson Talbot, NM) Sandpoint, Erik and Robin Eidsmo (Bentley) Monterey, Brit and Cleve Penberthy (Eli, Hanna, Mats) Spokane/Sandpoint. Goodbye Mormor. Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m., Friday, July 3, 2015 at the Heartwood Center, 615 Oak Street, Sandpoint, Idaho. The family suggests memorials to Bonner Community Hospice, 520 N. 3rd Ave., Sandpoint, Idaho 83864.
