Helen Kathleen Hannah, long time resident of Sandpoint, Idaho, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2015 at the age of 94 at the Bridge.
She was born in Stevensville, MT on September 12, 1920 and spent the ?rst eight years of her life on a ranch in the Bitterroot Valley with her ?ve siblings. Because of the Depression the family moved to Spokane, where Helen graduated from John Rogers High School. After attending Kenman Business School and working in Spokane, Helen married John A. Hannah in 1941. They had two children together and were divorced in 1951.
Always looking to improve her career opportunities and skills and seeking new adventures, Helen and family moved to Pullman, WA in 1957, where she was hired to be the manager of the Student Information Center at the WSC Student Union. While there she began hearing more about Sandpoint, ID from various people. So in 1959 Helen took a chance and grabbed the opportunity to buy a part ownership in the 219. After several enjoyable years at the 219, a new interest arose - real estate. Helen soon became a real estate agent and later a broker. She really loved tramping around the Sandpoint countryside showing people houses and real estate and she was very good at it.
Helen was a strong-willed, fun-loving nature and animal lover, who lived her life the way she wanted. Every spring she looked forward to again working in her garden and opening her perennial garage sale. She was an avid collector, who loved to buy for a nickel and sell for a dime. After living in many places, Sandpoint is where she wanted to be and where she happily stayed put for ?fty six years.
Helen is survived by her two children Jonaca (Bill) Driscoll and Chad (Susan) Hannah, three wonderful grandchildren Jack Hannah, Katie (Hannah) Gavzy and David Driscoll, and four lovely great-granddaughters. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
We will all have one last libation in her memory and honor. A contribution in Helen’s name may be made to Auburn Crest Hospice, 302 S. 1st St., Sandpoint, ID 83864.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at The Bridge at Sandpoint for their kindness, compassion, consideration, and sense of humor in caring for Helen and her family.
