Loretta J May

February 4, 1937 — September 1, 2015

Loretta Jean May, 78, left this earth to be with her maker in heaven Tuesday, September 1, in Sandpoint, Idaho after battling Alzheimers disease for the last several years. Loretta Jean Woodfill was born to Alden and Florence Woodfill on February 4, 1937 in Glasco, Montana. Within her first year of life she moved to Sandpoint, Idaho where she was raised with her sister Roberta(Mrs. Bill Folmer). She went to grade school and high school in Sandpoint where she met her husband, Ron, at the age of 14. They fell in love and eloped when she was just 17 which led to more than 61 years of marriage. They had their first son, Ronald E. Jr, in 1957 and shorty after their second son, Burt Wayne, was born in 1959. As a family they loved to ski and spent much of their boys' childhood as Boy Scout leaders. She and Ron also loved to square dance and were long time active members of the First Christian Church in Sandpoint. She worked at Bank of America and then went to beauty school before teaching and working at her mother's beauty salon for years. Ron and Loretta spent a lot of time with their eight grandchildren, caring for and playing with them almost every weekend. Loretta was never short on love or time for them. She enjoyed time spent with the kids in their indoor swimming pool, teaching card games, sledding, roller skating at the skate rink, cooking, and planning fun events and traditions for every birthday and holiday such attending the Shriners' Circus every year. She taught and instilled in them the Christian values that were near to her heart and rarely missed taking them to Sunday services, church events and potlucks. After Ron and Loretta were able to retire they gave away most of their belongings and bought an RV. They were able to spend a few years traveling the states to visit family and friends in Georgia, Florida, Arizona and all points in between. Loretta is preceded by her father Alden, mother Florence, aunt and uncle, Izetta and Fredolf Nelson and her brother, Robert Woodfill. She is survived by her husband, Ron, sister Roberta, 2 sons Ron and Burt and her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church in the South building on Saturday September 19, 2015 at 1 pm. Reception to follow.
