Jewell Bernier, 97, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho on Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 one week before her 98th birthday.
Memorial services will be held at the community center in Heron, Montana later in the month.
Jewell was in Heron, Montana on September 12, 1917 the daughter of Francis and Mildred Utecht. She attended school in Spokane, Washington. After school she would travel with her Aunt Katie in the rodeo circuit working as a waitress and cook.
Jewell met Edward L. Bernier Jr. in San Mateo, California at a race track where he worked as a jockey. They would later marry in Pico, California on February 14, 1936. They moved to San Diego, California for his work and later retired in 1970 moving back to Heron, Montana.
Jewell loved Montana, especially Heron. She was a historian of Heron and the surrounding area. She loved her friends and antiques. She spent a lot of time at the Sagle, Idaho swap meet and the antique shops around the area.
She will be missed by her family and friends.
