Larry Eugene Rosenboom

July 31, 1932 — March 31, 2009

Larry Eugene Rosenboom, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday,at 11:00 am, April 18, 2009 in the First Lutheran Church, with Pastor Dave Olson officiating. Larry was born July 31, 1932 in Craig, Nebraska to parents Steve and Ethel Rosenboom. Larry was a large baby and delivered by a midwife in Craig. Due to inadequate medical attention, Larry was injured at birth which affected the left side of his body. He lived with his parents much of his life, and in spite of his handicap, was a valuable asset to his parents in working on the farm. The family moved to Sandpoint in late 1948, where Steve and Ethel purchased a 40 acre farm on West Ontario, 1 mile west of Sandpoint. Without the use of his left arm, Larry’s right arm became quite strong and could lift 100 lb hay bales with ease. Upon the death of father Steve in 1972, the family farm was sold, and Larry moved with his mother to a single family home in Sandpoint. From 1985 to 1996, Larry lived in the Monarch House and worked for the Panhandle Special Needs program. He is remembered as having a “work ethic like a farmer” and “could cut/sand wood faster with that one arm than a lot of the gang could with two.” And he was “a gentleman to the ladies too.” Larry lived with Penny Maynard in Cocolalla from 1996 to 1999. For the past 10 years, Larry has lived with caregiver, Linda Ryan, at her home in Ponderay. The family expresses gratitude to Linda for the loving care and attention given to Larry over these years, and attending to his failing health. Preceding Larry in death are his parents, Steve and Ethel Rosenboom, and sister, Pat (Art). Larry is survived by his brothers, David (Barbara) in Port Angeles, WA, Art (Elaine) in Denver, CO, Lee (Kathy) in Ojai, CA, and half-sister, Dee Ruwe (Dick) in Thousand Oaks, CA, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends. Memorials made in Larry’s name may be directed to First Lutheran Church, 526 S Olive St, Sandpoint, Idaho 83864.
