Oscar Strand, 89, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015 in Sandpoint, Idaho. Oscar Strand was born on September 165, 1926 in Enid, Montana to Severin and Anna Strand, immigrants from Norway. He had two older sisters Sybil and Magda. Oscar, and his family, moved to a farm near Sagle (Algoma) when he was ten years old. Oscar graduated from Sandpoint High School at seventeen and joined the US Navy and served his country aboard the battleship USS NEW MEXICO until WW II ended. He met and married Lois in Boston and honeymooned on their way back to Sandpoint, Idaho. Born unto them was son Steven, now residing in Spokane, WA; (with wife Kris); daughter SunnyLee of Kootenai, Idaho; and sons Jay and Kurt of the Seattle area. Oscar bought the farm from his widowed mother and he and Lois raised their children in the happy and loving environment of the farm. Oscar worked the farm with help from his family and also worked at the lumber mill in Sandpoint. At the young age of 62 he sold the farm and retired from the sawmill, and moved to a residential community south of the Sandpoint long bridge. There he and Lois enjoyed life with family and friends until May of 2014 when Lois passed on due to a stroke. Oscar went to join his wife, of 69 years, on December 21, 2015 after a short battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, and his wife Lois. He is survived by his 4 children, 4 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Oscar and Lois’s ashes will be interred in the new Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, Washington. A memorial celebration of life will be held at Oscar and Lois’s home in the spring of 2016 .
