A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00AM, Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with Father Dennis C. Day, officiating. She was born on December 1, 1922 in Maxwell, TX. Irene grew up on the family farm in Boerne, TX. Later for her higher education she moved in with her grandmother for a while and that’s where she met her future husband Albert Bomba. They married August 13, 1942 in San Antonio, TX. Albert was a military career man and on his many travels he found a small cabin with land on Pack River Road. After a few years he moved his family to Idaho on Pack River in 1958. Irene and Al were married for 56 years. After Al retired they started Selkirk Honey Farms and raised bees, honey and hives for local residents. Irene was an accomplished seamstress most of her life making clothes for her family and customers. She also had candy vending machines in many stores around Sandpoint for a few years. For fun Irene made many quilts for her family. She raised a garden and canned everything that she grew, picked or was given. She was such a wonderful mother for her children and was such a gracious hostess when friends dropped by; taking some in and sheltering and providing for them while they got back on their feet. She was a lifelong Catholic and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Irene has 2 sisters still in TX, Janet Nabb and Patricia Fincke. She is survived by her son: Wayne (Sandra) Bomba; daughter: Linda Gillette; grandchildren: Brenda, Kim, David, Donna, Kermit, Misty, Christopher, Jason, Sonya; great grandchildren: Jason, Christopher, Katlyn, Colin, Kacie, Riley, Billy Bob, Taylor; great great grandchildren: Xavier, Zander and Titus. Irene was preceded in death by her husband in 1998 and her brother Arnold Fincke. Many friends, acquaintances and family will miss Irene’s sweet spirit and lovely smile. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the Bonner General Hospital Hospice and the Bridge for the loving care shown to their mother.
