Colette “Kit” (Sammartano) Bohmann passed away on May 28, 2009, exactly 63 years after her birth, in Sandpoint, Idaho after a very long, courageous battle with cancer.
Kit was born on May 28, 1946 in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota to Jean and Rose (Evans) Sammartano. She moved to California when she was 18 and married Cornelius “Neil” Twohig in 1965. They moved back to Minnesota after the birth of their first child, and divorced in 1981. She moved with her daughters to Gardnerville, Nevada in 1984 and then to Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho in 1987, finally settling in Sandpoint, Idaho in 1989. Kit worked as a professional musician playing bass guitar in many bands during her lifetime and also worked as a medical and legal secretary until first being diagnosed with cancer in 1991.
She is survived by her daughters, Tiffany Keenum and Tiara Abey, son-in-law’s Shy James and Jay McElyea, granddaughters Kenisha Abey, Erea McElyea, and Mariah McElyea. She is also survived by her siblings Patricia (James) Maki, Renee Cooper, Marc (Martha) Sammartano, Jeff (Jane) Sammartano, Lauri (Karla Matteson) Sammartano, and David (Theresa Briggs) Sammartano. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and close family friends she considered her children and grandchildren.
Kit’s family would like to thank everyone at Hospice, Bonner General Hospital, and Valley Vista Care Center for their excellent care and support during the past five months.
