Elizabeth Mae Berger

Elizabeth Berger was born to Fred and Elizabeth Porath in Richland County, North Dakota on July 14, 1930. She passed away on July 14, 2016 at Bonner General Hospital. Memorial graveside services will be conducted at a later time in the Clark Fork Cemetery. The family moved to North Idaho in the late 1930’s. Elizabeth attended schools in the Kootenai and Sandpoint area and graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1948. She married Ralph Berger on December 26, 1950 and moved with him to the various Air Force Bases that he was stationed at during his military service. During her lifetime Elizabeth worked for Pacific Northwest Bell Phone Company, JC Penney, Sandpoint Livestock Company and Nu-Way Enterprises. She was active in the Kootenai Ladies Aid, Kootenai Parent-Teachers Organization, Pack River Grange and local 4-H organizations. Elizabeth raised registered Herford cattle on her farm for many years. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, gardening, country music, pinochle parties and current events. She was preceded In death by her parents; husband Ralph; sister Phyllis Porath; mother-in-law Lillian Berger; brothers-in-law Robert Berger, Darius Williams, Gene Thurlow, sister-in-law May Knutson. She is survived by her children: daughter: Deed Hall (Chris Froh); daughter Nan Berger (Mike Borysewicz); son: William Berger; brother: Dennis Porath; sisters-in-law: Ann Berger, Barbra Porath, Bernita Williams, Genevieve Thurlow; and numerous nieces and nephews. She made her home at the Bridge Assisted Living for the past few years. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff for the great care that they gave to Elizabeth during her stay. A special thank you to Dr. Jade Dardine and Dr. Jason Roth for their excellent care. The family suggests memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Panhandle Animal Shelter.
