Shawn Michael Hicks, 38, of Sandpoint, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, on a job site near Priest Lake, Idaho. He was born to Cecil and Maureen Hicks in Anchorage, Alaska on January 26, 1978. Shawn and his family moved to Sandpoint, Idaho in 1980. He graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1997 and from the University of Idaho in 2003. He met his wife Rachael at University of Idaho and they were married on March 15, 2003.
Shawn started working for IDL in May 2000 as a temporary Resource Aid, working his way up to Fire Warden at the Pend Oreille Area in July of 2015. He was known by his colleagues for his willingness to help others, his kindness, patience, professionalism, and his devotion to his family.
Shawn loved all sports growing up, participating in cross-country and track at Sandpoint High School. He was a loyal Seahawks fan even before he could walk. One memorable highlight was going to the Seahawks Super Bowl parade with his dad and brother. He was also a fan of the US Soccer team and recently went to watch them play in Copa America with his wife and brother.
Shawn was preceded in death by his sister Christy Hicks who passed away December 19, 2015. He is survived by his parents Cecil and Maureen Hicks; his wife, Rachael; his twin brother Matt and sister Tracy, who work for IDL, his brother Brian, who works for the Forest Service and numerous nieces and nephews. All currently reside in the Sandpoint area.
There will be a service to honor Shawn on Tuesday, July 26th, at 11AM at First Christian Church, located at 201 N. Division in Sandpoint. Reception to follow at McDuff’s Beer Hall.
