James Val Kidd, age 82, passed away on December 20, 2016 in American Fork Utah from causes incident to age. Val was born to James Andrew Hobson Kidd and Elgy Ora Whittle Kidd on June 12, 1934 in Farmington, UT. He attended school in Stockton, California where he met, grew up with, and married his “honey,” Norma Marie Atkinson. Val and Norma were married on October 6th, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS temple. They were the parents of 3 children, Mike (Meri) Kidd, Valerie (Jim) Banks, and Cindy (J.Ward) Moody.
Val started out in the grocery business with his brother Mardee when they founded Mar-Val Food Stores in Lodi, California. He later left the business to become a thoroughbred horse trainer, a career that he loved dearly. In 1974, Val moved with his family to Sandpoint, Idaho where he lived until 2006 when he moved to American Fork, Utah to be near his daughter Cindy and her family.
He loved the outdoors and loved to take spontaneous drives with Norma just to see where the road would take them. Val was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Bishop and member of a Stake Presidency.
He is survived by his daughter Cindy, 12 Grandchildren, 26 Great Grandchildren, and his Sister, Marcella Poulton. He was preceded in death by his wife Norma, his son Mike, his daughter Valerie, his Parents Hobson and Elgy, and his brother Mardee.
A special thank you to the staff at ‘Hearts for Hospice’ and the ‘Charleston Assisted Living Center’ for the kind and considerate care they have given Val for the last 2 years.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 23rd, at 12:00 noon at the American Fork 12th Ward, 673 East 300 North, American Fork, Utah where a Viewing will be held prior from 11:00 to 11:45 am.
Funeral Services in Sandpoint will be held Wednesday, December 28th, at 11:00 am, at the Sandpoint LDS Stake Center, 602 Schwietzer Cutoff Road, Sandpoint, Idaho. Interment in Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 499 Pinecrest Loop, Sandpoint, Idaho to follow.
