Robert T. “Bob” Gruner, 89, passed away in Hayden, ID on Wednesday, January 11, 2016.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, January 19th, with Lorraine receiving friends from 1:00pm until 2:00pm, at Coffelt Funeral Service. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 3:00pm in the Hayden Bible Fellowship, Hayden, Idaho.
Bob was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 10, 1927, attending schools there and graduating from high school in 1946. He served with the US Army Air Corps from 1946 until 1949. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree, in mechanical engineering, from the University of Southern California. On June 30 1953 he married Lorraine Putman in Brocton, New York.
He worked for Douglas Aircraft and the Aero Space Company in Southern California. He moved to Idaho and received his teaching degree from the University of Idaho, later teaching at Sandpoint High School and a high school in Portland, Oregon. He would also go on the mission field to the Ivory Coast in West Africa, teaching math and physics.
He would teach at the Portland Christian Academy and establish, and operate, the Sandpoint Christian Academy from 1977 until 1984. He, and Lorraine, would start Crest Home Health, in Sandpoint and manage it until retirement in 1998. He moved to Hayden, Idaho in 2005.
He was a member of the Hayden Bible Fellowship in Hayden, Idaho and former member of the JayCees.
Bob is survived by his wife, of 63 years, Lorraine Gruner in Post Falls, ID; his son Mark (and Wendy) Gruner, in Sandpoint, ID; 5 grandchildren Ian, Eric, Patina Coote, Owen and Alec; and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Otto and Hazel; 2 daughters Peggy and Kathryn; brothers John and Donald, and his sister Lorraine Gerber.
