Jeanne Green, the only child of Bonner County pioneers John and Kate van Schravendyk, passed away peacefully at her Luther Park residence on February 3, 2017. She was 93 years old. Jeanne was born in a log house on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille, at Camp Bay, January 1, 1924. The place of her birth still stands. As a child, she rode her horse, Queen, through the forest to Meadowlark school near Glengary. She attended high school at Hope, staying during the school year with her aunt and uncle, Augusta and Henry van Schravendyk who homesteaded Pearl Island. She was the valedictorian of her class in 1941. She graduated from North Idaho Junior College in Couer d’Alene and worked briefly at the newly constructed Farragut Naval Training Center. Finding office work not to her liking she relocated to Portland and worked at the Kaiser shipyard where she met her future husband, Ralph Green. There they raised a family of five children. She and Ralph relocated to the homestead property in 1969 after the passing of her parents. They managed the land until age related health issues caused them to leave in 2012. She retained a lifelong love of nature and the woods she knew so well from her childhood. Throughout her lifetime she walked the family land, enjoyed North Idaho’s changing seasons, the lake’s many different moods and life in a place she loved so much. Nothing was more pleasant for her than swimming in the lake each summer which she did over many, many decades. Her family wishes to thank the staff of Luther Park, Auburn Crest Hospice and, especially, Darlene Johnson with AAging, for their compassionate care. She is survived by sons James (Camp Bay), Gary (Portland), Randy (Hayden) and daughters Kathy Lefor (Portland) and Sheila Green (Portland). She lived to see and enjoy many grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Services are planned for a later date. She will be inurned at the Gamlin Lake Cemetery with her husband, Ralph. There she joins her parents, Kate and John van Schravendyk, her grandparents, Cornelius and Anna van Schravendyk, and daughter in law, Barbara Green.
