Lyle Kenneth Mecham was one of eight children born to Leslie and Linda Mecham on October 18, 1930 in Upalco, Utah. After high school he joined the Army and served in the Korean War as a telegrapher on a ship. He then moved to Sandpoint, Idaho where he met and married Carolyn Jacobson and soon a son and then a daughter were born to them.
Lyle then went to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1962 as a telegrapher , working throughout western North Dakota and eastern Montana, with their home being in Beach, North Dakota. After retiring in 1993, they moved back to Sandpoint.
Lyle was a kind, patient man, always there for his wife, who was weakened by polio. He would help clean house, garden, and take Carolyn where ever she wished, frequently going for coffee, which they loved to do. Lyle enjoyed reading,
doing crossword puzzles, camping, bowling, and watching sports. He was a loving father and grandfather.
Lyle is survived by his brother Bill Mecham, sisters Edna Neer and Lenore Sumsion, daughter Cheryl (Dan) Otremba, grandson Aron (Kaatri) Otremba, grandson Paul (Doni) Otremba, 3 great-grandchildren, Vivian, Tom and Emerson, and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed very much by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Sandpoint Church of the Nazarene in Sandpoint, Idaho on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11 a.m., with a reception at the church following.
