Doreen Helen Saunders

Doreen Helen (Witiw) Saunders, 81, passed away in Sandpoint on Tuesday, April 4, 2017. The Vigil/Rosary service will be held at Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel on Sunday, April 9th, at 7:00pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St Joseph’s Catholic Church on Monday, April 10th, at 11:00am, with a luncheon to follow. Father Dennis C. Day will be officiating. Inurnment will be on Wednesday, April 12th, at 11:00am in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Doreen was born on August 7, 1935, on a small farm north of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, the daughter of Paul and Olga (Romanycia) Witiw. She married George Gordon Saunders on June 4, 1966 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and has resided in Sandpoint for many years. She is survived by her husband, of 51 years, George Gordon Saunders, Sandpoint, Idaho; her brother Orest Witiw, of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; with sons James in Peace River, Pat in Edmonton, Alberta, Gary in Calgary, Alberta; and daughter April Engel in Houston, Texas; a brother Norman in Winnipeg, Manitoba; also nieces Linda O’Connor (Saunders) and Sandy Saunders and nephew Tom Saunders, all from the Seattle areas. There are also many cousins in the Winnipeg area. The family would like to thank Auburn Crest Hospice and their amazing staff and Huckleberry House for their kind and professional assistance.
