Daniel J. Johnson, 87, passed away peacefully in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Tuesday, April 25, 2017. He is survived by his sons, Bradley J. (Tippy) Johnson and Jerry L. (Cathy) Johnson, both of Sandpoint, as well as his sister, Eunice Chavez, his 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Donna, his daughter Lucy, two of his sisters and his three brothers.
Dan was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on October 25, 1929, and lived in Minnesota nearly all of his life, except during his time in the service. A Korean War veteran, he served in U.S. Army Air Corps, and was stationed in Nebraska, Georgia, and Alaska. After his service, he returned to Minnesota, where he worked as a bank loan officer. He enjoyed wood carving, reading, playing piano, and getting together with family and friends for Scrabble and card games. He was famous for his delicious chocolate chip cookies.
Due to his declining health, he had to leave his beloved Minnesota in 2011. He moved to Sandpoint in 2015.
Family services will be held later in Minnesota.
