Mable Phyllis Schilling

November 15, 1935 — September 3, 2017

Mable Phyllis Schilling, 81, passed away on Sunday, Sept 3, 2017 in Sandpoint. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Pack River Cemetery with Pastor Ken Smith of the First Baptist Church officiating. A celebration of life will be after the service at the Sandpoint City Beach. Mable was born, in Sandpoint, Idaho on Nov. 15, 1935, the daughter of Harry and Ethel Gotham. She grew up on Gold Creek, with her siblings, attending local schools and graduating from Sandpoint High School. On August 1, 1953 she married Frank Schilling in Thompson Falls, Montana. They had lived in the Bellevue and Seattle, Washington area for many years where they started their family. She moved back to the Sandpoint area in 1974, where she loved the mountains and the forests, to raise her family. She wanted her family to appreciate nature and to love the life they lived, every day. She loved, and cared for, everyone she met as she watched her children grow and spread out across the country. Not wanting to be an “empty nester” she developed a passion for traveling. She traveled for 25 years, wearing out numerous cars, as her long and robust life was catching up to her. She resettled in Sandpoint, where she remained until the Lord called her to his side on Sunday, September 3rd. There she joined her husband Frank and Ethel, Harry, Harold, Harland, Peggy and Raymond. She is survived by her children Frank A (Susan) Schilling in Kootenai, ID; David A (Michelle) Schilling in Eagle River, AK; Douglas E (Melanie) Schilling in Moose Pass, AK; Sonka A. Elicerio in Kootenai, ID; Stephen H. (Leah) Schilling in Smithfield, UT; Leroy M. (Diana) Schilling in Wasilla, AK; her siblings Michael Gotham in Athol, ID; Robert Carlson in Vancouver, WA; and Cindy Lou Gotham. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Her children take comfort in knowing she is at peace and that her memory, and love of life, will follow them forever.
