Marvin A. "Barney" Emery

Marvin A. “Barney” Emery, 93, died Jan. 10, 2010 in Spokane, WA. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 14th, in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Dale Coffelt will be the officiant. Barney was born March 19, 1916 in Marlin, WA the son of James and Jennie Emery. He moved to the Palouse, WA area as a child and graduated from the Palouse High School in 1933. Following graduation he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Washington and Oregon. On June 6, 1936 he married Hazel Trimmer in Coeur d’Alene, ID. Barney attended the Spokane Trade School learning to weld. At the start of WW II he worked, as a welder, in the Seattle/Tacoma shipyards. He moved to Sandpoint in 1943, going to work for Mountain States Power Company. During WW II he served with the US Army. He returned to Sandpoint, working for Pacific Power for 35 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Sandpoint United Methodist Church and the American Legion, coaching Little League Baseball. For many years he was a member of the Lakeview Cemetery Board. He was active in the I.O.O.F. (Odd Fellows Lodge) serving locally as Noble Grand of the lodge, a term as Grand Master for the State of Idaho, and helped with the Patriotic Essay program. He was also a member of Plummer I.O.O.F. Lodge #142 and the Tillicum Rebekah Lodge #109. He is survived by his wife, of 73 years, Hazel Emery in Spokane, WA; 2 sons Duane Neil Emery of Spokane, WA; and Evan Lee Emery of Seattle, WA; 2 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, and a brother Quincy Emery in Spokane, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Frankie and Loren and a sister Edna
