Robert Lewis Hernvall

Robert Lewis Hernvall, 85, of Sandpoint, died Friday, January 15, 2010 at his home. Robert was born May 1, 1924 in Saint Maries, Idaho the son of Gustav and Jennie Watts Hernvall. His early life was greatly influenced by his grandparents, Rolland and Delia Watts. He graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1942. Robert proudly served our country for three years during World War II in France and Germany. He was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. On July 28, 1946 he married Mabel Jensen, the love of his life. They lived at Priest Lake, ID, Kennewick, WA and Sandpoint, ID. Robert was a true woodsman, logger, carpenter, and huckleberry picker. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gold dredging, and served as a volunteer at Panhandle Animal Shelter. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mabel; 3 children: Ron (Mary) Hernvall of Sandpoint, Larry (Geri) Hernvall of Priest Lake, ID, Jack (Cindy) Hernvall of West Linn, OR; a daughter-in-law: Vikki Hernvall of Spokane, WA; grandchildren: Ande Hernvall, Bethany (Scott) Cress, Richard, Jim, Christopher, Jennifer Hernvall; 4 great grandchildren: 2 sisters: Ruth McBurney and Nina Kotschevar both of Sandpoint, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Jennie Hernvall and 2 brothers-in-law: Bill McBurney and Don Kotschevar. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00AM, Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010 at Coffelt Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Jon Pomeroy, officiating, with military rites by the local veterans organizations. Friends may call at Coffelt Funeral Chapel Friday from 4:00-6:00PM. Private inurnment will take place in Pinecrest Memorial Park following cremation.
