Marvin Edward Johnson

Marvin Edward Johnson passed away September 3, 2010, at the age of 95, at his home in Cocolalla, to join his wife Alberta and his son Leland. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, Sept. 8th, in the Sandpoint First Christian Church. Pastor Barry Johnson will be officiating and interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Calling hours will be on Tuesday between 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm; and Wednesday morning until noon at Coffelt Funeral Service. Marvin was born September 29, 1914 to Charles and Irma Johnson. Marvin grew up on his family’s farm in Cocolalla and went to school at Twin Springs and Cocolalla. Marvin met Alberta Terrell of Cocolalla and they were married on Oct. 31st, 1938. They started Johnson’s Sandy Beach Resort by buying 160 acres on Cocolalla Lake and sold it in 1977. Marvin started Johnson’s Christmas Trees in 1962 and farmed and raised livestock. Marvin and Alberta drove school bus and started the first school bus route around Cocolalla Loop Road. Marvin also worked in the CCC’s where he had many stories about the city boys from around the country that came to work in this area. As a part of WW II he helped build Farragut Naval Base and then operated the boilers at the Farragut Hospital. At the end of the war he helped with the dismantling of Farragut. Marvin enjoyed traveling throughout Canada and the United States, making several trips up to Alaska to see his son and family. He also made several trips to Nebraska to see Alberta’s family. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and keeping his property, on the lake, looking nice. Marvin was very dedicated to his family and friends and always enjoyed having them around. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Irma Johnson, grand daughter Theresa Chapin, brothers Eugene and Kenneth Johnson, wife Alberta Johnson, and son Leland Johnson. Marvin is survived by his sister Gladys Johnson, sister Evelyn Keller, brother Clarence (and Betty) Johnson, brother Charles (and Joyce) Johnson. His children Lois (and Mason) Chapin, and Kathleen Johnson, his daughter-in-law Vickie Johnson, Grandchildren Brian and Ellie Chapin, Kent and Joleen Chapin, Kevin and LaRinda Chapin, Grant and Angie Chapin, Melanie and John Slack, Russell and Deanna Johnson, Eric and Arin Johnson. He also has 11 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren Memorials may be made to the New Song Bible Church, in memory of Marvin Johnson.
