Aletha E. Shields, 89, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010.
The memorial celebration of her life will conducted at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, Sept. 29th, in the Sandpoint First Baptist Church. Pastor Jon Pomeroy, Sandpoint Church of God will officiate. Private family interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Aletha was born Sept. 4, 1921 in Granum, Alberta, Canada; the daughter of Robert and Edna Foster. The family moved to Sandpoint a few years later. She attended Bonner County Schools, graduating from Sandpoint High School. She attended Lewiston normal Teachers College, Lewiston, Idaho; and graduated in 1942.
She married Denny Shields on Dec. 2, 1944 and they spent the rest of their lives on the Meadowbrook Ranch, in Oden. Aletha taught for many years in numerous schools in Bonner County, retiring in 1984.
She was a member of the First Church of God where she taught Sunday School and played the piano. She was active in the Bonner County Cowbelles for many years and a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, a teaching Sorority.
She is survived by 2 daughters Marilyn (Dean) Falk of Meridian, ID; Cindy (Jim) Binkerd of Centralia, WA; her son Tim (Tammie) Shields of Sandpoint, ID; 3 grandchildren and 8 great grand children. Also surviving are 2 sisters Beth Maxwell of Olympia, WA; Eunice Knaggs of Sandpoint, ID; 2 brothers Alton Foster of Keller, WA; and Lloyd Foster of Seattle, WA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Denny, a brother Eugene Foster, and a sister Marietta Foster.
