Margaret Pierce

Long time Sagle resident Margaret Pierce born September 8th 1912 passed away on October 5, 2010. Margaret Grisham moved from southern Idaho to the north end of Griffith (Shepherd) Lake in the early spring 1929 with her parents and five siblings. She finished her sophomore year of high school at the old (then new) Sagle School and graduated from Sandpoint in 1931. During high school and until her marriage to Myron she worked for the Allen Asher family for room and board and $5.00 a week. Myron had moved from Colorado to a farm on the east side of Frye creek with his parents and two brothers in 1919. Margaret and Myron were married on April 1, 1933 and began building their home on Bottle Bay road starting with a tent on a bare wood floor. Water was carried from a nearby stream. What many might consider as hardship was always remembered by Margaret as the happiest time of her life. Electricity was installed about 1937, followed by other amenities such as inside plumbing and a refrigerator. They built and lived together in their home for the next 62 years until Myron passed away in 1995. Their granddaughter Peggy Leach preceded her in death. She is survived by her four children: Dorothy Leach of Spokane, Carol Brown, Del (Norma) and Ben of Sagle; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by four siblings. Margaret never worked outside their home, but dedicated her life to all the generations of her family and helping friends and neighbors. We each know people in different ways, but all those who knew Margaret and Myron would surely agree that they were good people. Although never rich in worldly things they enjoyed a wealth of love and respect from family and all who knew them. While they did not spend a great deal of time in places of worship their lives could well serve as models for many who have. A remembrance will be held at a later date.
