Allan Richard Marley

January 28, 1938 — January 18, 2018

Allan Richard Marley, 79               Allan Marley age 79 of Sandpoint, Idaho passed away January 18, 2018 due to complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.  He was born to Emmett and Bertha (Helgeson) Marley on January 28, 1938 in Estherville, Iowa. The family moved to Sandpoint, Idaho in 1940 where he grew up with his two younger siblings David and Rhonda. Growing up in Sandpoint near the IGA he would buy a Big Hunk candy bar for a dime then spend his whole day at the beach. He attended local schools and while in high school he worked for the family at Ice and Fuel along with the Meat Lockers business until he joined the U.S Navy in 1956. He served in the Navy from 1956-1959 as a medic on a destroyer. His service took him to Japan, Guam and New Zealand. After returning home from the Navy he worked for the railroad. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Dalyn Broehl. They were married in February of 1963 and were soon blessed with three sons: Kris, Joe and Jim. Allan then worked for the family business, IGA Wholesale Grocery, until he used the GI bill to attend NIC and obtain an Associates of Forestry Technology Degree. After he graduated he worked as a surveyor, then for the State of Idaho which lead to a career with the US Forest Service until his retirement in 1992. In 1995 he re-opened the family Service Station which is now known as the Schweitzer Conoco. Allan enjoyed a good conversation at the Tervan with “the only normal people in town”. He liked being outdoors whether in the woods or on the water as well as the weekly flea market. He especially enjoyed his time with his grandkids. He and his grandson Jake would sit in the old Ford pickup and listen to Paul Harvey whilst munching on sunflower seeds. He was always making them laugh and spoiling them. He was a kind and generous man with a witty sense of humor and he will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents Emmett and Bertha, brother David, sister Rhonda and son Kris. He is survived by his wife Dalyn of Sandpoint, sons Joe (Michelle) Marley, Jim (Kim) Marley, of Sandpoint; grandkids Jake Marley of Kauai, Makaela (Zack Miller), Taylor (Luther Coerver), Jeremiah and Kate Marley all of Sandpoint and two great grandchildren due soon. The family would like to thank The Huckleberry Retirement Home and Auburn Crest Hospice for their care. A celebration of Allan’s Life will be held Saturday January 27, 2018 at 11:00am at Coffelt Funeral Chapel.  Pastor Ken Smith, First Baptist Church will be officiating.
