Andrew Mason Chapin, or Mason as he was known, was born June 18, 1934 to Frank and Nora Chapin in Pierre, South Dakota. His family moved to Edgemere, Idaho, in May of 1935. He attended Priest River High School and graduated in 1953. He began working in the mills, but eventually worked as a carpenter, and a school bus driver. In 1955 he met Lois Johnson, and the two enjoyed going to dances together. Not long after meeting Lois, Mason sold one of his Harley motorcycles to buy her a ring. They were married on May 26, 1957. They had six children: Brian, Kent, Theresa, Kevin, Grant, and Melanie. Through the years Mason enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and riding motorcycles with his family, as well as playing pinochle with friends. Most of all, he loved being with his family. Mason passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Chapin and Nora Bews, his sister Dorothy Monk, daughter Theresa Chapin, and great-grandson Easton Boe. He is survived by his wife Lois Chapin, children Brian (and Ellie) Chapin, Kent Chapin, Kevin (and LaRinda) Chapin, Grant (and Angie) Chapin, and Melanie (and John) Slack, and by his siblings, Earl Chapin, Frank Chapin, and Carl Chapin. He leaves behind ten grandchildren, Andrew Chapin (and Coralynn Arcand), Amanda (and Tel) Thompson, Jeanie (and Kalen) Kulp, Scott (and Rhiannon) Slack, Marissa Slack (and Tyler Speraw), Katlynn Slack, Logan Slack, Teresa (and Derek) Boe, Zoe Chapin, and Trevor Chapin, and eleven great-grandchildren.
