Dann Jay Hall

August 28, 1947 — November 28, 2021

Dann Jay Hall passed away on November 28, 2021, in Seattle, Washington, at Virginia Mason Hospital.

Dann had a decades-long battle with kidney disease. His heart finally gave out as the doctors attempted to stabilize his kidney transplant from earlier in the year.

He is now playing "Golf in the Kingdom" (a favorite book title). He was born on August 28, 1947, at Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint, Idaho. His parents were Ross and Hazel Hall.

He has a brother, Robert Ross Hall and Leslie, his awesome, fun wife. They made Dann an uncle twice over with their children, Jonna Lynn Weber of Boise and Jordan Ross Hall of Arizona. Jonna is married to Reed Weber with two children; a son, Alec, and a daughter, Charly. Jordan has one daughter, Lilly.

Dann has a sister, Loyce Helen Lewis of Spokane, Washington. Loyce had one son, Britt. He and his great wife, Karen have one son, Logan. So Dann was an uncle a third time.

His wife, Paula Parsons, the final and best love of his life, died nearly three years earlier. This marriage, later in their lives, was packed with love, travel, adventure, highlights and photographic art. Paula brought to their marriage three beautiful daughters, Michelle, Erika and Rachelle. Rachelle with her husband Aaron, living in Sandpoint, brought Uncle Danny his (their) first grandchildren. To love, play and enjoy … He was so thankful for them all.

Dann's passions were skiing, golfing, traveling abroad, taking digital pictures and restoring new life in old Ross Hall pictures.

He was a Sandpointer through and through. He loved his many, cool golf buddies and skiing friends.

Some recall that he was at Schweitzer Ski Hill the first opening day, along with Gary Johnson … and long before it was a resort. Others say he was one of the first golfers at Hidden Lakes, long before the Idaho Club.

Dann carried on the work of his dad, Ross Hall, the well-known photographer. Ross and his vivacious wife, Hazel became First Avenue merchants in 1938. Years later, Dann opened up Hallans Gallery, on the same First Avenue — a span of 83 years.

Dann, as a solopreneur, slowly worked himself up from a chemical-based darkroom in a dilapidated garage to the current showcase, Hallans Gallery.

The gallery is filled with restored Ross Hall Sr. pictures that are produced from the latest digital processing technology.

Dann has showcased some of the best North Idaho historic characters and scenes.

Dann was a graduate of the University of Idaho and a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He greatly enjoyed his membership in Sandpoint Rotary. He was a major player in the development of Pend d'Oreille Bay Trail. He taught and spoke on photographic techniques and his restored Ross Hall photographs.

Arrangements are being made to continue the Ross Hall works led by the well-experienced and competent Alicia McFadden Bopp and supported by the Hall family.

There will be a celebration of his life in the weeks ahead with invitations and announcements to be made shortly.

Contributions can be made to the Sandpoint Rotary Charitable Trust, Box 1666, Sandpoint, ID 83864, Attn.: "Dann Hall Memorial."
