E. Harry Kenny

Edward Harry Kenny, 96, passed away, at his home, in Spirit Lake, Idaho on Monday, October 16, 2017.   Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017 at 3:00pm at the Edgemere Seventh-day Adventist Church.  Private family interment will take place in the Seneacquoteen Cemetery. Viewing for family and friends will be held 1:00-5:00 pm on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017 at Coffelt Funeral Chapel, 109 N. Division, in Sandpoint.   Harry was born in Sawyer, Idaho (currently known as Vay) on July 17, 1921 the son of Patrick and Arvilla Kenny.  Other than the 16 years he spent in Montana and the 6 years he lived in Spirit Lake, he resided his entire life on the land where he was born.  He attended the Seneacquoteen School through 8th grade and then began working the cattle ranch with his father.   On February 3, 1944 he reported for training to Farragut as an enlisted serviceman in the Navy.  He was assigned to a destroyer, the SS Lardner, and spent approximately two years in the Pacific Theater.  He was present in Tokyo Bay when the Japanese surrender was signed on September 2, 1945.   On July 12, 1947 he married Hazel Larson in Spokane, Washington, They lived in Hot Springs, Montana where Harry worked in logging for Stan Diehl and later in Thompson Falls where he was woods boss for John Oliver’s logging operation.  In 1966, after the unexpected death of his father, he moved his family back to Vay, Idaho to run the cattle ranch.  In addition to ranching he also worked at trail building, thinning, slashing and removing timber for the Libby Dam water reservoir.  In 1986 he received the Idaho Woodsmen of the Year Award for his selective logging practices and stewardship of his forestlands.  Around 1987 he sold the cattle herd and turned his attention to logging full time on his own acreage until a bad ankle forced him to retire at the age of 87.   Harry is survived by his three daughters, Linda Brennen, Sandpoint, ID; Charlotte Schober, Lincoln NE; Kathryn Fridlund, Stanwood, WA; 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother Bill Kenny, and his wife Hazel.   The family suggests memorials be given to The Edgemere SDA Church Building Fund, PO Box 861, Sagle, ID 83860; or Auburn Crest Hospice, 1221 W.
