Elizabeth Baran passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho on December 9, 2024 after a long illness. Liz was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States with her parents and younger brother. She spent the majority of her life in Staten Island, New York. She was a graduate of Curtis High School and held positions at American Express before changing careers and working as a receptionist at a local Staten Island tax business. She relocated to Sandpoint in 2020 to live near her niece, Kristen Sloan, and have a change of pace.
Liz loved reading and was especially fond of true crime stories and mysteries. She was very skilled at embroidery, which kept her busy over the course of her illness. She adored her great nieces and nephews, and loved to hear all about their doings.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Wolodmyr Baran, her sister, Dorothy Baran, and her brother, Walter Baran. She is survived by her brother, Taras (Margaret) Baran, from New York, and her sister, Anna (Philip) Paolino, from Pennsylvania; and her nieces Kristen (Jared) Sloan of Sandpoint, Astrid Baran, Stephanie Baran, and Samantha Baran. Liz will also be deeply missed by her seven great nieces and nephews: Connor, Aidan, Andrew, Eva, Tess, Molly, and Nick Sloan.
A Funeral Mass will be held at noon on December 18, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rosary will be said for her on Tuesday, December 17 beginning at 1pm.
