Dad was born on December 31, 1935 in San Francisco, California to James Henry Healy and Rose May McDonald.
Dad spent his early years in San Francisco where he attended High School and worked as a Mechanic to make ends meet. Dad quickly realized he had a knack for sales, which soon had him managing a string of Health and Fitness Studies in and around southern California. His ability to sale and his interest in the medical field soon had him crisscrossing the country selling medical equipment.
Dad’s career began in 1959 with Birtcher Corporation, a manufacturer of medical and electronic electro-surgery instruments. He later joined Dallons Instruments where he helped to development the first patient monitoring system.
Dad’s work ethic allowed him to buy his parents their first home by the time he was 25 years old.
In 1963 while working in Chicago, Jim met Sondria Humphrey, who would soon become his loving wife. Even though Sondria was from Texas, Jim convinced her to move to southern California. Together they eventually had three children, Denise, Shaun and Chris.
In 1969 Dad’s entrepreneurial spirit drove him to create Medical Measurements Corporation, providing consulting services and products to hospitals. He organized one of the early holter scanning services and represented fifteen major manufacturers, ranging from monitoring systems and computers to the first disposable electrode.
In 1978, Dad joined Advance Medical Company as Vice President, where he established a dealer/representative organization which successfully marketed and sold holter scanners.
Upon the sale of Advance Medical Company to American Hospital Supply, Dad entered into development of an improved holter system, and formed Laser Scan Corporation. Laser scan was later sold to Quinton Instruments.
After the sale of Laser Scan Corporation. Jim and Sondria were ready for a change and moved the family to beautiful Sandpoint, Idaho.
Realizing ECG technology is only as good as the connection to the patient, Dad designed and developed a patented electrode feature that incorporated a “leadlocking” tab to secure the lead wire to the patient, thus eliminating signal artifact/noise. In 1986 Jim formed Lead-Lok with the help of his wife Sondria Healy, close friend Linda Shea and 36 shareholders. Lead-Lok was later sold to Graphic Controls in 2014.
Nine years after Mom’s passing from Cancer, Dad remarried to Deanne Johnson in 1999 and started a new life. Dad and Deanne enjoyed improving properties and even built the first fully functional treehouse in Dover cove.
In addition to his work and dedication to his family, Dad also thoroughly enjoyed spending time on the lake in his boat, being in the mountains on horseback, a good game of golf with friends, a competitive tennis match, traveling the world, and driving his Porsches through the many scenic roads of North Idaho.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Jim on Saturday October 12th from 12 noon to 3pm at his residence located at 609 Lakeview Boulevard, Sandpoint
