James William Everhart

James W. Everhart, 88, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho on Thursday, January 4, 2018.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00am on Thursday, January 11, 2018, in Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel.   Father Bob Lily, Heron, MT will be officiating.

Jim was born in West Point, NE on December 31, 1929, the son of James and Nell (Bird) Everhart.  The family moved to Omaha, NE in 1930.  He attended grade school at Holy Family Catholic Church in Omaha, serving as an altar boy for many years.  He graduated from Tech High School in 1948.  He joined the US Marines, receiving a medical discharge in 1949.

James married Janet Larson, in Omaha, in 1952.  He was employed by Packaging Corp. of America, as a die maker, for 40 years. He was active in the Union Local #412, serving many years as an officer.  The family moved to Gretna, NE in 1959 where they lived until moving to Sandpoint in 1997.

Jim began scouting, as a sea explorer, in 1944 and by 1955 was a skipper of his own ship, the Privateers.  The sea explorers were located on Carter Lake, near Omaha.  After moving to Gretna he became active in The Boy Scouts, receiving the following scouting awards:  Scouters Key, Commissioners Key, Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award.   He was a member of St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Gretna, serving on the church council for several years.  He was also a member of Gretna Men's Club.

After retirement the family moved to Sandpoint, Idaho in 1997 to be closer to their children.  He was a member of St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sandpoint, often attending the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clark Fork

He was preceded in death by his parents, two half-brothers, Clifford Everhart of Hope, Idaho and Darrell Everhart of Spokane, WA; his two sisters Lela Mae Everhart and Ellen Murray both of Omaha, NE.  Survivors are his wife, Janet and 4 children, Timothy Everhart, Rochelle (Ken) Russell, and Charles (Wendy) Everhart, all of Sandpoint; and William (Charlotte) Everhart of Hope, ID; 6 grandsons and two great grandchildren.
