Joan was born in Roseburg, Oregon on November 4, 1944. She spent her earlier years living in Florida and was a young teenager when she moved to California.
She settled in Tracy, California. Joan married John Robert Taylor on May 6, 1967, in Carson City, Nevada. She worked for the Tracy Press Newspaper and eventually joined John at the Goodyear Tire dealership in Tracy, working in the office and supporting John in his ownership responsibilities of the shop.
In 1980, the family moved to the Sandpoint area. During these years, she ran the family ranch in Priest River. She also worked for Northern Energy Propane and Coldwater Creek before becoming a CNA.
Shortly after the passing of her beloved John, she moved to Juneau, Alaska, where she worked for Alaska Electric Light & Power for eight years. After retiring in 2010, she longed for the warmer climate of Florida. Joan made dear friends with every move but eventually found herself back in Northern Idaho.
Joan had a soft spot for animals. She nurtured a herd of 100 sheep and fed wild racoons and birds. She had many pets, but cats were her people.
She enjoyed reading, authoring stories, and photography. She loved traveling, family campouts, and outdoor adventures.
Joan was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she dedicated time to family history work. She was well-loved by all who knew her.
She is survived by five children: Ken Taylor (Sue Ellen) Tracy, CA; Joyce Bruce (Dave) Kent, WA; Janice Nolan (Craig) Sioux City, IA; Andy Taylor (Angela) Puyallup, WA; Diana Chadwick Battleground, WA. 15 Grandchildren and 24 Great Grandchildren.
