Nellie Agnes Shaver

Nellie A. Shaver passed away on May 21, 2019 at her home in Ponderay, ID.

Graveside funeral services were held at Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Jon Pomeroy officiating.

Nellie was born in Australia, the daughter of Thomas and Agnes Mitchell.  She grew up and attended school in Australia.  She met and Married the love of her life during WWII.  They stayed in Australia until they sent the last of the war brides home.  They arrived in Sandpoint the last day of 1949.  She made her home in Sandpoint for 8 years before moving to Ponderay in 1957, where she has lived ever since. 

She worked at Safeway in Sandpoint for 32 years before retiring for 3 years.  She then went to work for Kmart when it came to town.  She worked at Kmart from the time they opened until the day they closed.  She went back to Australia quite a few times and traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, and around the U.S.  She loved the U. S. but said Australia would always be her home. 

Nellie was active in the VFW Auxiliary, she was a member for over 50 years and served as president.

Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald in 2001.  Her daughter Betty in 2006, Son in law Glen Thompson, her mother, Dad, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, and 2 nephews.

She is survived by her three children; daughter Marlene Thompson (Ponderay), Daughter Leona (Don) Crawford (Tucson, AZ, and Son Ron (Ellen) Shaver (Ponderay), 8 grandchildren; Melissa, Jeff, Angela, Heather, Kim, Roy, Nikole, and John.  19 great grandchildren 4 great great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces here in the US and Australia.
