Philip Tomas McGuire, 63, passed away in his home surrounded by his family on January3, 2024 after a long, courageous battle of prostate cancer, COPD and leukemia for the past few years. Phil was a native born, raised and lived on the family’s cattle ranch in Sagle, preserving the legacy of his grandparents (Ken and Nina Reed) up to this day. He was born to his parents Thomas E. McGuire and Josephine A. (Reed) Boyle when his dad was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in 1960.
Phil completed K-12th grades and graduated from Sandpoint High School. He was a hard worker on any job he had, which was many, taking pride in all he accomplished and he definitely knew how to have fun. Phil loved hunting, farming, logging, haying, raising cattle, butchering, timber, gardens, millwork, construction, welding, woodwork and fishing. Always enjoying his family, friends and neighbors’ company with the good food he had grown on the farm.
Phil met his wife Penny in 1994 and they were married in 1998. They are blessed to have a son Philip (his dad’s helper) and a daughter Richelle (Phil’s goal was to walk her down the aisle on her wedding day, which he did) and a new grandson Waylon. His uncle Johnny lived at the farm also so Phil could take care of him for many years. Phil had two siblings, a sister Nina Mae (George) Pinsonneault and a brother Rodney McGuire, plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, relatives and acquaintances (to many to list).
Phil was the strongest, hardworking, generous fun-loving gentleman you could meet. He was charming and looked and talked like Sam Elliott. He loved the attention of all the ladies.
Phil is survived by his wife of 25 years Penny, son Philip (Tanis), daughter Richelle (Matt), newest grandson Waylon, big sister Nina Mae and brother Rodeny.
Phil was preceded in death by his grandparents Ken and Nina Reed, parents Thomas McGuire and Josephine (Lloyd) Boyle, Uncle Johnny, brothers Chuck and Pat and many other family and friends unfortunately.
Phil’s final wish was no service. Prayers are appreciated.
In the hearts of those who loved you, you will always be there. As you were you will always be treasured forever in our memory. I keep in my heart the love of the past, for there it was planted forever to last. Your presence I miss, your memory I treasure. Loving you always, forgetting you never.
2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with The LORD. Amen.
